We are celebrating 2008 all day long in Caledon Penzance at the Gaiety Theatre! This morning at 4:00AM SLT, the first Ball of the day went off without a hitch as the Aussie kicked up their heels. Hosts Miss Saffia Widdershins of Prim Perfect Magazine and Miss Persephone Gallindo of the Caledon Gaiety Company were with me as we kicked off our day long extravaganza.

Caledon History: New Year's Eve 2006

Here is a blast from the past - one year ago! This photo is courtesy of Lord Edward Pearse - he took it last New Year's Eve in Caledon. We had nothing planned officially for a New Year's Eve Celebration, but at the last minute (as was often the case back then) Shenlei Flasheart (the Duchess of Loch Avie at the time) and I decided to throw a party.

It was the first time that I had ever played contemporary music in Caledon, and was only the third gig I had ever done, after the Halloween and Christmas Balls. I remember the night for several reasons:
I was tasting 6 bottles of Champagne in RL...and I was feeling the effectsEdward Pearse IMd me and introduced himself, and we talked "DJ stuff and music"Red Caliber IMd me and introduced himself, and we talked "DJ stuff and music"My future boss at T1 Radio, Nuala Maracas, secretly came to hear me play without my knowledge because she wanted to hear if I was a good DJIt was the first night that my "future"…

The Nightingale and the Rose, by Oscar Wilde

'She said that she would dance with me if I brought her red roses,' cried the young Student; 'but in all my garden there is no red rose.'

From her nest in the holm-oak tree the Nightingale heard him, and she looked out through the leaves, and wondered.

'No red rose in all my garden!' he cried, and his beautiful eyes filled with tears. 'Ah, on what little things does happiness depend! I have read all that the wise men have written, and all the secrets of philosophy are mine, yet for want of a red rose is my life made wretched.'

'Here at last is a true lover,' said the Nightingale. 'Night after night have I sung of him, though I knew him not: night after night have I told his story to the stars, and now I see him. His hair is dark as the hyacinth-blossom, and his lips are red as the rose of his desire; but passion has made his lace like pale Ivory, and sorrow has set her seal upon his brow.'

'The Prince gives a ball to-morrow nigh…

Joyeux Noel

Whatever your religious persuasion, I wish all of the residents of Caledon a joyous season.

I am giving you what I can: the gift of music. I have prepared a 24 hour playlist of festive and unique music from my Library.

Tune in to Radio Riel at and enjoy!

With love,
The Nightingale

Let's Hear It For Norma Genie Burton!

Last night, the Gaiety Theater in Caledon Penzance held its first unofficial performance - Miss Eugenia Burton, working it and belting it out on stage. She sang a song that she composed as a Christmas gift for her friends, Mr. Iason Hassanov and Mr. Nix Sands.

Cue the music for "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend"...

Human males are bred to die for love.
They delight in fighting duels.
But I prefer a Shiny Man, Who uses coal as fuel!

A kiss on the hand may be quite continental, but Steambots are a girl's best friend!
A kiss may be grand, but it won't buy the rental,
on your Caledon lands or help you buy designer brands!

Men grow cold when girls get too bold
And we all lose our men in the end.
But iron or copper,
Don't care if you're proper!
Steambots are a girl's best friend!

Hassanov's.... Ironworks...
Bolts! Guns! Steam! Fun!
Talk to me, Iason! Tell me all about it!

You might know some soldiers who served in Crimea,
But inventors are a girl's best friend.

The Second Annual Caledon Yule Bonfire

Has it been a RL year *already*?? Join us this evening in the Caledon Highlands, from 5:00pm - 10:00pm SLT for the Second Annual Yule Bonfire, hosted by Mr. JJ Drinkwater (just like last year) and music provided by Gabrielle Riel (just like last year).

Music will be of a Mediaeval/Renaissance bent, voice will be active on the parcel, Mr. Drinkwater promises to do a reading from "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight"...and Gabi and Eva will attempt to lead some acapella carols. :-)

The Duchess Returns from The Drinkwaters

Comets, importing change of times and states,
Brandish your crystal tresses in the sky.

~ William Shakespeare

I stood in the doorway of the kitchen of the Drinkwater family home in Brighton, dressed in my traveling suit. I surveyed the state of the counters and the kitchen table...stacked with loaves upon loaves of Christmas Bread - loaves of the Drinkwater family's recipe, and those of the Throckmorton's. I smiled to myself and thought, "My work here is done."

I turned and went down the hall and into the Salon, where Madame Dowager Drinkwater was sitting and reading, although she stood immediately upon my entrance. "All set dear?", she queried. "Yes.", I looked into the sun dappled garden, light reflecting off the leaves of the various fruit trees. "It is time for me to return to Caledon...although I hate to leave, I have has *such* a marvelous time, in great part thanks to you Madame!"

"It was my pleasure dear.", said my gene…

Share the Music, Gabrielle

One of the things that I appreciate most about my Second Life, is the way it has brought the most amazing people into my orbit. People that I would have never met if it were not for SL and Caledon. The best example of this is the group of people that have come together to form what is now Radio Riel.

I am constantly impressed and amazed by the professionals that work by my side. I do not know if it is public knowledge, but every single one of the Radio Riel presenters have either been RL club DJs or RL broadcasters. You may have seen me comment in chat at an event done by one of my presenters, "I love my DJs!!!!" I do - they blow me away on a regular basis. And the run of events that we had two weeks ago was a testament to their talent and dedication.

On Wednseday, November 28, Dia ROCKED the garden at Coughton Court with *real* metal. She researched and planned her playlist based on the actual subgenres within the metal genre. The crowd loved it, and I was so impressed with h…
