The Party's Over

The first awareness I had was the music. I know this song, I thought...

What song is this, I wondered?

Ohh, I recognized it. It was Astrid S, “The Party’s Over”.

The words and tune floated through the darkness behind my eyelids, filling me.

“Pour all the champagne, make it rain, have our own parade, we don't feel a thing, Chardonnay, running through our veins…”

Ow. I winced. Oh my head…

My head hurt. Badly. Really, really badly!

I thought, maybe it won’t hurt so badly if I don’t try to move. So I remained still, listening to the music.

“We don't have to go, go home,we can stay here, laid out on the floor, have one more 'til the room clears, pour all the Champagne, make it rain, we can stay here, stay here...”

A brief memory flash from the previous evening hit me. I was sitting at the bar at The Nightingale, drinking Chardonnay. I had started with Chardonnay. Then switched to Pinot Noir. Then to my favorite, Champagne.

I hadn’t been alone. Selena and Pru were t…

A Shotgun Wedding in 1920s New York

I had needed to get out of St John.

The month of April 1917 had been incredibly stressful on all levels.

On the global level, President Wilson had called for war on Germany, and on April 6, the US Congress had declared it. I had no idea what this was going to mean for St John and its residents. All I knew was that I was living in dread of what fresh horrors I would read about in the daily newspaper.

In my personal world, I had played 8 gigs in 9 days at the beginning of the month and then played 4 gigs in 4 days at the end of the month. I had hosted the 3rd Court of Carntaigh Presentation Ball and celebrated my 11 years in Second Life. I had not managed this many events and gigs in such a short time since 1908.

In the midst of that crazy work schedule, I had new opportunities with old friends. I had existing bonds of friendship strengthened. And in one case, I had not only broken a bond with someone that I had loved very much, but I had watched a year of beautiful memories go up in fl…

The 3rd Carntaigh Court Presentation Ball

Next Friday, April 21 is my 11th Rezday in Second Life.

I have decided to celebrate it by doing something that I have not done in 9 years, a Court Presentation Ball.

There are posts from this blog in the Summer of 2007 that document the establishment of my court and my chivalric order, The Order of The Nightingale:

The Name:

The Members:

The First Court Presentation Ball:

On my 2nd Rezday, April 21, 2008, I added members to my court: .

My 2nd Rezday was the last time that I presented my court, because 6 months later I bought my first sim and began the process of leaving Caledon, and that included leaving behind my life as the Duchess of Carntaigh. I became Miz Gabi of New Toulouse and eventually Witchport and St John.

In the last yea…

Protection Never Ends

Tuesday Time for a Spell from The Nightingale

I opened my eyes.

It was the dead of night and I could hear the low rumble of thunder in the distance.

Normally the sound would not concern me, for it was Spring, the time of rain and storms. The rain that washes the darkness of Winter away, but something felt...wrong.

It was the sound of wood on wood, knocking together hard.

I realized what the sound was. It was that of a boat banging into the dock, rhythmically hitting it, pushed by the waves.

I slipped out of bed and went to the French doors of my balcony, looking out to the dock. Yes, there was a boat there, and someone was in it. The moon shone on her blond hair, making it spun silver. She was working on the moorings, untying them, releasing them, preparing to push off from the dock.

I thought, what on earth is she doing? Where is she going? Right now, in the middle of the night??

The thunder rolled again in the distance.

I flung the French doors open and stumbled to the balcony railing, hitting it so hard it …

Homestead Available in St John

Would you like to lease a homestead sim in St John? I have one opening in about a week. The one-time purchase price is $14,000 L and weekly tier is $8200 L. That weekly tier amount just covers the $125 USD monthly bill I pay to LL for it. I do not profit from the sim.

Also, we will need to rename the sim and can coordinate that together. If you are interested in leasing it for your home or business, please let me know!
